Fluoride and Decay Prevention, Treatment & what to expect

Lakefront Family Dental offers Fluoride & Decay Preventive treatment.

Many years ago scientists started to notice that children who were born and raised in areas with natural fluoride in drinking water had fewer cavities than children in other areas. In 1945, Brantford Ontario became the first Canadian city to add Fluoride to a public drinking supply. Since then, many other Canadian cities came on board and made fluoride additions to improve public health.

Brantford was paired with neighbouring Sarnia in an 11-year case study of the effects of water fluoridation. Over this period, Brantford children had a 63% reduction in the severity of caries and a 35% reduction in the prevalence of caries.4 Since the time of these early case studies, the rate of community water fluoridation in Canada has grown, with 45.1% of the total population now having access to fluoridated water.

Fluoride absorbed by your body when teeth were forming (during mother’s pregnancy to early childhood) integrates into the structure of enamel and makes it stronger.

After teeth eruption, fluoride found in your toothpaste, mouthwash, or in what your dentist places on your teeth still has a positive effect on your teeth. It strengthens the enamel and reduces the chance of tooth decay. At Lakefront Family Dental we can provide our patients with this treatment. Visit Us Today.

FLUORIDE TREATMENT

Burlington Preventive Dental

You may need Lakefront Family Dental fluoride treatments if your drinking water is not fluoridated or if you are experiencing certain symptoms, such as receding gums or sensitivity.  Fluoride treatments can also provide oral support and prevent decay if you wear orthodontic braces or are taking medications that cause dry mouth.

What should I expect during fluoride treatments

Fluoride treatments are painless and can be administered with Lakefront Family Dental during your routine check-ups and cleanings. Dr. Zemskova will apply fluoridated gel, foam or varnish into a tray and place it over your teeth. The treatment takes only a few minutes and are only required between one and four times per year.
