The first visit to our beautiful dental office in Burlington will give you time to get to know our dentist, Dr. Zemskova and will allow us time to obtain essential information, such as your medical and dental history, insurance information, etc.  After the paperwork, a new patient comprehensive exam will be done to assess your dental health.

New patient Comprehensive dental exam:

1) Full Mouth X-rays

A close-up view of each tooth allows our dentist to look for tooth decay, tooth fractures and bone loss. Typically, FMX (full mouth digital x-rays) taken every 1-2 years gives the dentist a good baseline to compare future x-rays.

2) Panoramic X-rays

With this digital x-ray, our dentist can see a broad view of the jaw, TMJ (temporomandibular jaw joints), teeth, sinuses and nasal area. These X-rays also show problems such as impacted teeth, fractures, bone abnormalities, cysts, solid growths (tumours) and infections. It is usually taken every 3-5 years.

3) Oral Cancer Screening

Our dentist's goal when conducting oral cancer screening is to recognize it in the earliest stages. It is usually done every 1-2 years in coordination with intraoral x-rays.

4) Gum measurements (Periodontal probing)

Periodontal probing determines the presence of gum disease. A probe is a tiny ruler that is gently inserted into pockets around teeth. The deeper the pocket, the more severe the disease. In healthy gums, the pockets measure less than 3 millimeters. Periodontal measurements are usually done every 3-5 years for healthy gums, more often in the presence of gum disease.

5) Bite Observations

Our dentist will check for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome (TMJ joint sounds, TM Joint pain, jaw muscle pain, tooth wear and fractures).

6) Comprehensive intraoral EXAMINATION

Our dentist will check for any tooth decay, cracks/crack lines, fractures, erosions, failing restorations or dental filling, missing teeth etc.

7) Appearance observation

Our dentist will check for teeth position and arrangement, teeth colour, gingival display. If a patient is interested, a comprehensive smile makeover consultation can be provided.
